Getting Ready For Your Summer Vacation: How To Look & Feel Fabulous

It’s that time of year again, the time when we’re all counting down the days until our summer vacations. Last year, I spent a few days in Barcelona and couldn’t contain my excitement in the lead up to my trip. Travelling is so, so exciting. Visiting new places, meeting new people, trying new things; there’s so much to look forward to.

Of course, a lot of us like to take the time between booking our trip and going on it, to prepare ourselves. This can mean anything, from putting together a packing list to getting our bodies in better shape. If you’ve booked a vacation for the summer but don’t feel like you’re quite ready for it, you’ve come to the right place. Today, I’ll be sharing my top tips for preparing for your summer holiday in style.

Focus on your body

If you want to rock your bikini on the beach, you need to be confident. It’s not about adhering to body ideals, but ensuring you’re happy with how you look. You can be curvy and still look fabulous on the beach, but if you’re not confident it will show. If you’ve gained a few pounds over winter, now is the time to shed them. If they're getting you down, that is.

Good old healthy eating and exercise do work well, but to speed things up, there are a few other things you can do. If you’re going to speed up your weight loss, make sure your chosen option is doctor approved.

Take care of your skin

Is your skin looking a little worse for wear? When you’re on the beach, the last thing you want is skin that’s dry, red and patchy. That’s why it’s so important to prepare your skin for your summer vacation by giving it lots of TLC. Give your skin the care and nourishment it needs, and you can ensure that come vacation time, it will be beautifully soft and smooth.

Each time you take a shower, exfoliate your skin to remove any dead or dry skin cells. Once you get out the shower, pop some moisturiser on, to help keep your skin hydrated. If you’re not a fan of waiting for moisturiser to soak in, an in-shower body cream could be worth considering. To give your skin a beautiful natural-looking glow, start using a buildable fake tan. Studies have shown that tanned skin adds confidence, so fake tan is well worth using.

Get your hair hot-climate ready

Unless you want your hair to come back from holiday looking dry and dull, you need to take good care of it. Hot climates can cause a lot of damage to hair, especially hair that’s prone to drying out. That’s why, before your trip, it’s essential that you give your hair as much care as possible.

The first step to take is to get a haircut. Ask your hairstylist to trim your ends - this will get rid of dead bits and will encourage healthy hair growth. It’s also worth using a deep conditioning mask once to twice a week on your hair, to help combat any dryness.
