All About How To Wind Down and De-Stress Your Mind and Body

We all lead busy lives with lots going on. We have a work life, a home life and a social life. In between doing all the things that are required of us, when do we get some alone time? It can be hard to fit it in, but it is so important. If we are able to take care of ourselves, we can then take care of others and do all that we need to. If we are just running round in a manic state, we won’t get anything done as we should. Let alone do anything effectively. So to be the best that we can be, we do need to take time for yourselves. Alone time can help us to reevaluate our lives and prioritise things. You can reflect on the things that you have done and what needs to be done. You can just sit and enjoy the quiet too. Just doing something that you enjoy, or that is a treat is important. If you struggle to get time alone, here are some of my suggestions to help.

Like anything else that you do, it might be a good idea to schedule it in. Say you want to take some time to go shopping, book it in your diary. Try not to book anything over it; treat it like any other appointment or meeting that you have. Some things will need to be booked in anyway. Do you like to have a full body massage or a facial as a way to relax? If so, that kind of thing needs to be scheduled in anyway. Just make it a priority to keep that time free.

It is a good idea to recognise your triggers for when you might be experiencing burnout. Then you know that some alone time needs to be booked in. If you find that you can get rather stressed out at certain times, or from doing certain things, remember what that is. Then if it is coming up, you know to sort it all out and plan in some time. You might find that you don’t sleep well when you are getting exhausted, as crazy as that sounds. You might go off your food or even get a breakout of spots. Whatever it is, learn to recognise it and then you can focus on controlling it.

Eating well is a great way to combat stress and deal with it. If you are eating the right things, you will have all that you need to deal with the stresses of everyday life. So make sure that you are having plenty of fresh and whole foods. If you have too many processed foods, they can fill your body with all sorts of junk. They can make you feel more tired, which isn’t a good mix when combined with being stressed. Likewise, refined sugary foods are best avoided too. They can make your blood sugar levels high rather quickly and then low rather quickly. This isn’t good for your energy levels either. Foods full of vitamins and minerals will help you much more. So snack on things like carrot sticks and hummus, fruit smoothies or green juices.

So what are some of the best ways to take some time out? Some people prefer to be quite active and busy. Some people prefer to do very little and find that that is all they need to wind down. So if you don’t know what works best for you, here are a few ideas. I hope that this helps you find something to try.

Pamper Time
You could take a relaxing bath. Filled with bath salts, essential oils and scented candles, you could be in heaven. I know this is a popular thing with parents of young children. As they normally can’t get to do anything in peace. So listening to music or reading a book, while soaking in the bath can be super relaxing. In a similar vein, I know quite a lot of people that like to enjoy an alternative therapy as a way to relax. A massage, reflexology or even something like acupuncture helps a lot of people. If you have never tried one of these before, it might be worth giving it a try. You could also just try having a haircut, getting a manicure or pedicure or having your eyebrows threaded. It is something out of the ordinary that will help you to feel extra special. If it improves how you feel then why not go for it?

Being By Yourself
One idea is to avoid using social media during the time that you want to be alone. It can stress you out even more if you see someone on Facebook that reminds you; you need to do something. The blue light of screens on phones and tablets can be disruptive to relaxation too. Plus, how much might you be tempted just to scroll through it, rather than take a nap? You could just set aside an hour or so to just read a book or magazine. You could set aside the time to sleep or to listen to music. Not doing a lot can actually be rather productive for a lot of people.

Enjoy Your Hobbies
If you don’t think that you have any hobbies, it is a good idea to look into what you might enjoy. Hobbies are a great way to burn off some steam and to get better at something. So they can help your confidence no end too. Some people enjoy playing a musical instrument or some people prefer dancing. Some people like to take time out to bake and create. Others prefer to exercise and enjoy something like running. Even something like sewing or knitting is a great thing to do. It isn’t just for grannies! All of these things are great ways to spend time and to help you wind down.

Do you have a favourite way that you wind down and beat stress? I’d love to hear what helps you.
